OZORO INCIDENT: UKODHIKO CONDEMNS ASSAULT, VOWS JUSTICE FOR VICTIMS
The Member representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, , has strongly condemned the recent incident of harassment and assault of young women in , describing it as “evil, heartbreaking, and unacceptable.”
Ukodhiko made this known after a fact-finding visit to the leadership of the kingdom, led by His Royal Majesty, . Also present during the visit were Odio Chief Beckley Asiafa, President General of the Ozoro Progress Union, and Chief Emmanuel Edevor, Chairman of the Ozoro Council of Chiefs.
The lawmaker noted that the incident, which occurred during a community festival, was perpetrated by criminal elements who hijacked what was meant to be a peaceful cultural celebration.
He emphasized that such acts run contrary to the values and traditions of the Isoko people, who are widely known for their hospitality, dignity, and strong moral upbringing.
“Let me state this clearly: the Isoko people will not tolerate any behavior that is alien to our culture or capable of tarnishing our collective identity,” Ukodhiko stated.
He further commended the leadership of Ozoro Kingdom for their swift response and cooperation with security agencies, particularly in dispelling what he described as false and misleading narratives suggesting the existence of a so-called “rape festival” in the area.
“There is no such tradition in Ozoro Kingdom or anywhere in Isoko land,” he affirmed.
Ukodhiko reassured the public that all perpetrators involved in the heinous act would be brought to justice, stressing that the matter would not be swept under the carpet.
He also expressed solidarity with the victims, assuring them of support as they navigate the process of healing and recovery.
“My thoughts are with the victims of this unfortunate incident. We stand firmly with you, and our office remains open to provide necessary assistance,” he added.
The federal lawmaker used the opportunity to appreciate the Governor of Delta State, , for his prompt directive, as well as the Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area, security agencies, and concerned Isoko stakeholders who have spoken out against the incident.
He called on residents and stakeholders to continue to uphold the values of respect, safety, and justice, stressing that collective vigilance remains key to preventing a recurrence of such acts.
